LPP Home Page

Author’s Preface:

Lift Propulsive Pedaling (LPP) is a fully tested and technically verified “on the saddle” variant of the pro-pedaling technique. Pro cyclists lift through 75% of their pedaling stroke upswing and then push down and sweep to an upswing with the opposing pedal. This subtleties of this lifting and pushing combination take years to master.

With LPP the cyclist lifts through 100% of the pedaling upswing and lets the opposing leg provide support to the lifting leg via its muscular-skeletal weight. Once the descending leg free falls down to the bottom of the arc, it proceeds to lift the pedal to the top of the arc. The mechanical efficiency of the lifting leg as it applies force to the stroke is not interrupted by the descending leg though the upswing. Instead, it is supported by increased energy provided by the weight of the descending leg. It is important to note that absolutely no push down pressure should be applied by the descending leg. Doing so disrupts a lifting process that has been instrumentally proven to be better at power generation than the pushing down on pedals. This is so because far more muscles effectively support the lifting effort. The LLP physics have been fully explained in the technical paper provided. This paper has undergone a rigorous independent technical review to ensure its accuracy.

LPP is also a technique that drastically reduces stress to the knees. It allows cyclists that could no longer apply downward pressure to the pedals, to ride efficiently while producing high wattages. This is because LPP completely eliminates any downward pressure in order to achieve optimal lifting efficiency. LPP is also Pro tested and verified. The following is a summary of the Pro LPP tests findings:

Dedication

This Website is dedicated to Tyler Johns and his LPP cycling feat delivered at the 2014 Cour’de Alene, Idaho Iron Man Triathlon.

Performance Summary: In June 29 of 2014, after some intense training which included learning and adapting to LPP in my indoor cycling classes at 24 Hour Fitness in San Diego, Tyler Johns went to Cour’de Alene, Idaho to participate in this grueling Iron Man.

With over 5,000 feet of climbing across the 112 miles cycling stage, this test demanded a razor sharp and highly efficient cycling performance to set up a successful marathon stage. Getting out of the water in the 1,167th position with a 2.4 miles swim time of 1 hours 22 minutes and 51 seconds, Tyler started his cycling stage.

Riding the 112 mile course at an average speed of 20 miles per hour in a time of 5 hours 38 minutes and 41 seconds, he notched the 161st fastest cycling time out of 2,124 participants. During that performance he dropped over 900 competitors and finished in the mid 200th position overall. After running the marathon in a time of 4 hours 31 minutes and 26 seconds, he placed 361st out of the 2,124 competitors with an overall time of 11 hours 45 minutes and 49 seconds. A truly remarkable feat for his first triathlon.
